An Intimate Wedding at Priston Mill

I only know one way of starting blogs, and that's by introducing myself. I know some of you know me, I know some have swiped up on Instagram and others may have googled "Priston Mill wedding photographer " or possibly "Priston Mill wedding photography". For those who googled the latter, and haven't got the foggiest who I am or what I am about. Here goes...

Hi Gang, I'm James. I am a wedding photographer based in Cheltenham in the Cotswolds. Over the years I have shot many venues here in the Cotswolds as well as further afield. For today's wedding, I am back at a venue who are incredibly kind to me — Priston Mill near Bath. I say Priston Mill are incredibly kind to me because they are. They always seem to recommend me, and they must see hundreds of wedding photographers, so it means the world.

Lauren & Joseph's Priston Mill Wedding

I write this post mid-February 2021. We're still in lockdown and the Panny-D of 2020 is still well and truly here.

Joseph and Lauren's wedding was one of the last, if not the last, I shot in 2020 and restrictions meant 15 people max. Winter weddings are the best if the light is right. Lauren and Joseph's wedding had, what I would call, perfect winter light. Bright, crisp and warm.

Lauren & Joseph's Ceremony

Priston Mill has a certain magic to it, almost dream-like. The Tythe Barn, which L&J had exclusive use of for the whole day, is an ancient stone-walled barn that used to be run by the monks of Bath Abbey, God knows how long ago. What’s left from that time is simply elegant, historic character, now furnished in a luxurious, contemporary style. It’s definitely one of the most picturesque and atmospheric wedding venues in the Somerset area.

Lauren & Joseph had a very simple ceremony. There was only 15 of us, the light-flooded in as did the emotions. I felt it when I photographed it. Photography does that to me; it's like the ultimate front-row seat.

Reception and Portraits at Priston Mill

As I mentioned previously, L&J's wedding had perfect winter light, but as Priston Mill is nestled in a valley (beautifully quiet and serene, I must add!), it gets dark at 3:30ish and I had to get a motor on with their portraits. Personally, this was the highlight of the day for me. I got in my car, and L&J in their uncle’s, I believe. A rip around to find some spots in the surrounding countryside and 15 mins later we back with the bubbles and friends. Crazy really!

The rustic charm of Priston Mill makes for a completely relaxed and memorable day for all. L&J - thank you for having me. I truly loved it.

I hope you enjoy Lauren and Joseph's wedding photographs and as always thank you for your interest in my work.

James
