Adam And Katie's Wedding At South Sands Hotel In Salcombe Devon

An intimate wedding in Salcombe Devon...

I only know one way of starting blogs, and that's by introducing myself. I know some of you know me, I know some have swiped up on Instagram and others may have googled "Salcombe wedding photographer" and haven't got the foggiest who I am or what I am about. So here goes...

Hi team, I'm James. I am a wedding photographer based in Cheltenham in the Cotswolds. Life has blessed me, and I am fortunate to photograph weddings all over the UK and destination weddings overseas. No wedding is too big or small for me and for today's wedding at the South Sands hotel in Devon is 100% on the smaller side.

Adam and Katie's Salcombe Wedding

I hope when you read this the Panny-D of 2020 will be a mere memory. However, history is history, and Adam and Katie took the plunge and decided to have a tiny 15 people elopement to one of my favourite places on Earth. Salcombe in Devon. My day didn't start in Salcombe however, it started on the M5. I left with a good hour to spare and then a massive traffic jam hit. I was like OMFG I haven't shot a wedding in months and now I'm in standstill traffic and going to be late! Good news though, things freed up, and I was on time - proper panic though!

Adam and Katie's Ceremony

Adam and Katie had a very simple ceremony at the Quay House in Kingsbridge Devon. It was only their Mum's and their two daughters who witnessed their ceremony. The restrictions were super heavy at the time. As such, that was the max allowed. It was a wonderful thing to witness, but a tough room to photograph. Registry offices always are, but a few lights and the right lenses sorted it!

Wedding Lunch at the Crabshell Inn

Right, that was the hard bit done. Now booze, food, and partying - what I'm good at! Katie and Adam are on a par if not slightly surpassing me in that field. A rare thing indeed!

Before we went to Salcombe, we walked to a fab restaurant called the Crabshell Inn. On the way, we got some piccies and basically had a laugh! At the Crabshell we all sat down had some lovely food. I had a burger with a black bun, far better than it sounds. Adam said a few words. The whole thing was warm, heartfelt, honest, and incredibly special. I'll never forget it.

Wedding Photography at South Sands Hotel

South Sands Hotel sits right on the beach (a rarity in England!) and has a fresh, laid-back vibe. Although strictly speaking not a wedding venue, I couldn’t have imagined a better location for A & K to celebrate with their family. South Sands has a clean, fresh, laid-back vibe, though I haven't mentioned yet that this wedding was in December, so it was mighty chilly! Thankfully the hotel is so cosy and homely in winter and is a fab year-round location. All these photographs coming up were taken at the South Sands Hotel and on the beach. To me, they show the warmth, love, and joy of the day. Truthfully, we were only on the beach for about 30 minutes or so. 30 minutes which I will never forget and 30 minutes which produced some of my fave wedding photographs I have taken.
