As a Gloucestershire wedding photographer most of my work is based in and around the Cotswolds, but there are occasions when weddings come up further afield which are very hard to refuse…

Claire and Carl’s at One Aldwych was just this kind of wedding. For those who don’t know One Aldwych is in the heart of the City a stones throw from Waterloo Bridge and just off the Strand. Inside it is a feast for the eyes with simple clean lines, quirky statues and furniture to die for.

Having not met Claire or Carl and being far more of a country boy than a slick city dweller, I arrived slightly nervously about an hour and a half early. My nerves were soon gone as I was warmly met by Claire, her mum and sister in their beautiful suite. I spent an hour or so photographing Claire’s wonderful dress, shoes and the girls getting ready, before I headed of to Islington Town Hall for where their ceremony was taking place.

Although I’d never photographer a wedding at Islington town hall before as soon as I arrived it was instantly recognisable. It really is a landmark building and been featured on the television many times over the years. After the ceremony Claire, Carl and I headed off to waterloo bridge for their wedding portraits. It’s a dream location for a wedding photographer with Big Ben and the London Eye framing Claire and Carl perfectly. We were only there for about ten minuets, but the amount of people walking past offering their congratulations is something which will stick with me for a long, long time.

One of the perks of being a wedding photographer is I often get to eat the same food as the guest and nearly always it’s lovely. However, I must say the food at One Aldwych was the best I have ever eaten… I could talk about the food for ever, but if you’re ever in London check it out, as I promise you it’s like nothing on earth!

My day ended after Claire and Carl’s first dance. As is often the case with my couple it was the usual! They’d been having dancing lessons and performed a little routine that was funny, touching and more importantly got everyone on the dance floor for a good old boogie!

It’s always tricky picking images for my overview of the day and Claire and Carl’s was particually difficult, but below are a few of my favourites from the day.

Thank you for your interest in my work,

James Fear
